"..We are in fact convinced that if we are ever to have pure knowledge of anything, we must get rid of the body and contemplate things by themselves with the soul by itself. It seems, to judge from the argument, that the wisdom which we desire and upon which we profess to have set our hearts will be attainable only when we are dead and not in our lifetime.."

~ The role of memory is central to the novel,  such as sights, sounds and smells conjure important memories for the narrator and sometimes return attention to an earlier episode of his life..

Proust starts his novel with the phrase "I long went to bed early." À la recherche du temps perdu consists of seven volumes totaling around 3,200 pages (about 4,300 in The Modern Library's translation) and featuring more than 2,000 characters.. Proust spent the last three years of his life mostly confined to his cork-lined bedroom, sleeping during the day and working at night to complete his novel..

With À la recherche du temps perdu / In Search of Lost Time Proust attempted the perfect rendering of life in art, of the past recreated through memory. It is both a portrait of the artist and a discovery of the aesthetic by which the portrait is painted, and it was to have an immense influence on the literature of the twentieth century..

"deconstructive analysis sexual textual inversion Marcel Proust's recherche du temps perdu" ~ life is an erotic dream:

..A la recherche du temps perdu, by Marcel Proust is not really a novel, by any stretch of the imagination, for it violates the precepts of novel writing..   Proust’s sentence structure can impress, but it can also bore. Much of the work is like riding a rollercoaster- there are a few pages of breathtaking excitement when the ‘moment’ described is in full fall from the top, but the long slow climb to the next peak is often excruciating..

When a man is asleep, he has in a circle round him the chain of the hours, the sequence of the years, the order of the heavenly host. Instinctively, when he awakes, he looks to these, and in an instant reads off his own position on the earth’s surface and the amount of time that has elapsed during his slumbers.  We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one can else can make for us, which no one can spare, us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to regard the world..

Life As A Waking Dream:
How many works of literature open with sleep or dream, and the promise of something more? Perhaps the greatest example of this is Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, wherein the whole of the book could be termed a dream.

Sensual Dreams:   *sen·su·al·i·ty

This is about sensual dreams which sometimes intrude on a night of peaceful sleep:

**SENSUAL DREAMS : Dream symbols go deep inside the workings of the mind.. Sometimes dream symbols can have unusual meanings - this is especially the case with sex in dreams. Dreams will use bizarre symbols like this to express our feelings.. Sexual dreams may have many different meanings..~ like lovely memories.. "remembrance if things past" or life chances we missed. This is the a search of lost times never coming back: " Á la recherche du Temps perdu.."

In the dream world, fairies can represent our hopes and desires.  They symbolize fantasy and can represent a need to escape reality. Fairies are typically tiny, beautiful and delicate.

For women, fairies can symbolize the nurturing, maternal and feminine side of the self. Fairies in men’s dreams might represent the anima, the female aspect of the personality. When we accept and integrate both our masculine and feminine traits, we can achieve emotional balance. That’s like in TAO..
